Excerpt from the Book -
Death: moving forward to a new purpose
This chapter is totally based on my experiences with spirits who have passed over and information I have received from Spirit. Accept the information that feels comfortable for you and release the rest. We are not all at the same place on our paths. That is what makes life an adventure: treasures all along our path wait for us to discover them when we are ready.
Early on in this adventure of my life, I was given this message from Spirit:
Death was a gift from God. It was God’s reward to us for completing our life’s purpose. Through death we were being allowed to return home to God’s unconditional love. His love heals all of the wounds of our life and He rewards us for meeting the challenges of our life purpose.
God was with us when we designed what our lives would hold; God saw the ambition within us as we chose to heal the karma of our many lifetimes. He surrounded us with His angels and guides to support us through these challenges. The importance of our life purpose is not determined by the length of our life. Whether our life consists of 99 years or less than one hour, we have a life purpose. When that purpose is fulfilled, we are rewarded as God sends His special angels to hold our hands and heart when we choose to come home.
For most of the people with whom I talk about death, it is not the afterlife they fear, it is the actual death and leaving loved ones behind. This is understandable. But, in talking with those who have already crossed over, I always receive the same message --- They were not alone at their time of death. An angel or a family member was sent to assist them in their crossing, and a powerful loving energy was present, an energy so beautiful that they could not describe it. I have waited in hospital rooms, watching as angels and loved ones in spirit gathered, as they excitedly anticipated the event of their loved one’s crossing. They see the process as their loved one coming home. I am often told by those in spirit, of the angel that pulled them out of the car just before the impact, preventing them from suffering the pain of the accident. I have had those in spirit tell me about standing beside the bed and watching as their physical body released its last breath of life, ending the physical struggle. Those in spirit rarely talk about trauma when referring to their physical death. Instead, they talk of the instant joy and overwhelming love that greeted them in a blink of an eye. They sometimes talk about the beautiful tunnel of light that they are drawn into. I am told that this is the doorway to God, and that His love is welcoming them home.
I have witnessed the consciousness of the soul, as it appeared like a stream of smoke leaving the human body at the exact time of death. At this point, the person officially releases the physical density of their human body to the freedom of spirit. Time on the other side and time here is very different. There is no perception of time when we cross over. We are welcomed home by our loved ones already in spirit. Then there is a period of transition. I am told our spirits can make the choice of staying in the place of unconditional love that God provides for us, or they can do a quick transitional healing. This transitional healing is just enough to enable them to return to us in spirit form in order to assist us with our healing process. If this is the choice they make, they will actually slow down their own soul’s journey, using their energy to hold a space on this earthly plane while they complete an obligation to someone they have left behind. When a loved one chooses to return in spirit to assist us in healing our grief, you can imagine the sacrifice they have made, as their soul’s journey has been put on hold.
As our consciousness advances in our spiritual awareness, the veil between those living in body and those in spirit form is becoming increasingly thin. Those in spirit want us to understand more about their existence. One beautiful soul in spirit, who’s earthly name was Bob, took the time to explain to me what life was like on the other side. He said, “It is like being able to breathe in the most beautiful feeling of love with every breath.” You have to admit, it sounds delightful!
I have worked with people in all stages of life, preparing them for their transition. Whether this transition is to come in one hour or many years in their future, we are all working our way towards death. Many hold the traditional perception of death as the end of life, when actually it is only the end of one phase of our life and the beginning of a new one. Remember how excited you were when you turned eighteen years old? You were transitioning from adolescence to adulthood. You were graduating to a new stage of life that represented a great freedom to a wonderful new adventure for you. Try looking at death in exactly the same way. Death brings a freedom that allows us to ride on the wings of angels. One of my clients, now in spirit, gave me that illustration of death after she left.
Spirit likens our soul’s journey to how we experience our earthly days. As the sun rises life begins, bringing new beginnings. As we start each day, it may hold excitement, happiness and joy, or it may hold challenges of illness, sadness and grief. These are all experiences that allow us to grow, to make our own choices and to take control of our lives. You can see the opportunities and challenges of your life from any perspective you choose. As the sun sets there is the wonder and beauty of what we have completed in that day or that lifetime. God gives us beautiful sunsets as a sign of completion to remind us that death is our breathtaking reward for all that we accomplished in that one day or that one lifetime.
Since I was given the gift of communicating with those who have crossed over, I have really been tremendously enlightened about the process of death. The belief that most of us grew up with was that death was the end, the end of our life, the end of our existence; but I have found that to be far from the truth. An important part was left out: death is only the end of our existence in this particular human body, the end of one chapter of our lives. The complete journey of our soul’s existence is contained in a big book in God’s library. This book holds the knowledge and experiences of each lifetime, and we continue to add to it. That same knowledge of our soul’s existence is held within our spiritual DNA.
Often I have souls in spirit-form come to me asking that I explain to their loved ones how death works. This is difficult for me, since I have not experienced the complete process myself, so I have always left it up to Spirit to give me the words, as I will now:
We realize that for some, having a better understanding about death is very comforting; this is what we desire for you. When it is your time to cross over the threshold of death, it happens in the blink of an eye. For some, there is a tunnel of light, for others just a bright light that you pass through at the time the soul leaves the body for the last time. It’s what exists on the other side that is important. There is a great energy of love that envelops your spirit, welcoming you home. This involves a heartfelt reunion with your soul group, including your family, friends and loved ones. Death is not the end of life for you. For a period of time, you will no longer be in the density of a human body, but the same spirit that occupied that body remains alive. There is a life force energy that is connected to every spirit; that energy continues to exist. Your spirit, or soul as it is frequently referred to, has the choice to return to earth in spirit form for a limited time to remain among your loved ones. This often happens if you feel a great responsibility to loved ones left behind. Sometimes you may feel that you have not finished what you came to do in this lifetime, so you return to supervise its completion. The soul in spirit has the ability to travel, allowing its energy to be in many places at once, if necessary.
From a human perspective, I enjoy the knowledge that we can call on those in spirit and they will come to be with us. We may not hear them or see them, but we must trust that they will be there for us, just as we trust that God will not abandon us. They often tell me how they enjoy talking with us, even though we are seldom able to hear their voices, they listen to us. If we still ourselves long enough, we can learn to feel their energy. Their energy can affect electrical energy, causing the lights to flicker or go off. As their energy becomes stronger they are able to move things, all in an effort to get your attention. They can come to you in your dreams to give you messages, or you may awaken during the night to see them standing by the bed. Pennies are left for us, songs are played for us. Those in spirit want you to be reminded of them, to know they haven’t left you. All of the things I have talked about are common, but we are usually too busy rushing through our lives to notice, or, we are not ready to see. Our loved ones in spirit delight in joining family celebrations just as you do. Pay attention to the signs that they give us of their presence.
Cheryn came to me as most of my clients do, through word of mouth. As Cheryn describes her experience, you will see how important it was for her to have that connection with her daughter. Knowing that her daughter was still with her gave her the strength to begin healing the pain, grief and loneliness of her loss.
I had heard of Linda through a woman who worked for the same company as I did. We worked independently at our own homes and I had met her only once and felt immediately that we had a connection. On the phone, we shared memories, talking about our daughters who both had died…shared feelings about the difficulty of living on without them. She called one day to give me a telephone number which had been passed on to her by her friend in Austin. She told me about Linda and her ability to connect people with their loved ones who had died. I called her to make an appointment and did so, giving her just my name. Linda greeted me, we walked into her office, and she said, “You’re here to meet with your daughter, she’s right behind you.”
From there our session continued with Linda validating many, many things for me. She talked about instances in my daughter’s life that she could not have known without help from God and my daughter. I broke down when Linda said she was unwrapping candy — butterscotch candy. My Dad had always greeted Christy with a little piece of butterscotch candy from his pocket. Linda talked about milestones in my daughter’s life and I came to the conclusion that Linda has a divine gift to help those of us here to carry on until we cross over and join our loved ones. I had experienced visits from Christy before I met Linda but that visit was the step I needed on my road to recovery. I am convinced our spirit does live go on and our transition into the next place is just that --– a transition. I now understand and accept the Grace of God.
Thank you Cheryn for sharing your experience with us.
For those in spirit with whom I have worked, the human personality often remains with them after they pass. If they held negativity prior to death, I usually see that released from them as they have an understanding of the whole picture that we do not have. They may comment about the challenges of their previous personality traits, but it is difficult for them to hold the negativity of their human existence. They evidently keep their sense of humor, as they often share it with me. These souls are very aware of the karma they created, and have a goal of trying to heal what they can from the other side. That is why they often do what they can to bring their loved ones to healers such as myself.
We are awakening to the reality that those in spirit are among us. They continue to pray for us, sending their love and support; as the messages of their words to God’s ears are just as powerful as ours continue to be. With the veil becoming thinner, I hope the time is near for all of us to be able to reach through to hear their words and feel the embrace of our loved one in spirit.
Souls in spirit do not always remain on earth. Many return for a short period, but few of them stay for long periods of time. If they are finished with their life here, they are ready to join their loved ones on the other side. They can return as often as they choose, continually giving support and messages to their loved ones in body.
After the transition period, the human spirit embraces the new beginning. There are decisions to be made and work to be done. We start with a time of rest and healing of any trauma experienced in the most recent life. Then follows a transition, as the spirit adjusts to its new form and is reminded of how things work there. Heaven, as many of us refer to it, is not a place for slacking off. It is like a fine-tuned corporation with many jobs to be done, just as we have here on earth. As the soul goes through the healing process, it reviews the life it has just left, noting accomplishments as well as failures.
By accomplishments, I do not mean what job was held or how big the house was, or what kind of car was driven. Rather, I mean the important things in life: What karma did you heal? Whose life did you touch in a positive way? What examples did you set by showing love and kindness? In going through the healing process, the soul observes its life, seeing the karma created and the karma healed. The soul evaluates the job it did in this life, and how well it accomplished its Life Plan. Remember that the Life Plan was the purpose of that lifetime.
